The Dominar 250 features a 248.77 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. This engine is essentially a reworked version of the KTM Duke 250 unit, but tuned by Bajaj to provide a more "relaxed" and linear power delivery, making it better suited for long-distance highway cruising than aggressive street racing.

It produces 27 PS of power, which is plenty for maintaining steady speeds of 100–110 km/h on the highway. While it has 13 PS less than its 400cc sibling, the power delivery is remarkably smooth, with a strong emphasis on mid-range performance.

The 23.5 Nm of torque allows for easy overtaking and effortless climbing on hilly roads. The engine is "tractable," meaning you don't have to shift gears as frequently in city traffic compared to higher-revving sportbikes.
