Maruti Suzuki offers both a 5-speed Manual and a 5-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission. The AGS (Automatic Manual Transmission) uses an intelligent actuator unit to manage clutch and gear shifts, providing the convenience of an automatic with the fuel efficiency of a manual gearbox.
Drive Type: FWD (Front Wheel Drive)
The Wagon R utilizes a standard Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) layout. This configuration is ideal for small hatchbacks as it consolidates the engine and transmission over the driven wheels, improving traction on slippery surfaces and maximizing cabin space by eliminating a central transmission tunnel.
Clutch Type: Single Plate Dry Friction
The manual transmission variants use a conventional Single Plate Dry Friction clutch with a diaphragm spring. This setup is chosen for its simplicity, ease of maintenance, and lightweight properties. In AGS variants, the same clutch mechanism is operated by an electro-hydraulic actuator.
