Gearbox: Single-Speed Direct Drive (Transaxle)
Unlike traditional vehicles with multi-speed gearboxes, the Outlander PHEV uses a high-efficiency single-speed transaxle. The electric motors provide instant torque from zero RPM, eliminating the need for a complex transmission. When the gasoline engine engages in Parallel Hybrid mode, it connects to the front wheels via a hydraulic clutch with a gear ratio optimized for high-speed cruising.
