The Outlander PHEV utilizes a sophisticated "Twin Motor" system paired with a 2.4L MIVEC four-cylinder combustion engine. While the gas engine produces 131 hp, the front and rear electric motors (114 hp and 134 hp respectively) combine with it to deliver a total system output of 248 hp. This setup allows the vehicle to operate in three modes: EV Mode (all-electric), Series Hybrid (engine charges battery), and Parallel Hybrid (engine and motors drive wheels together).
Battery Capacity: 20 kWh Lithium-ion
The 2025 Outlander PHEV features a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted low in the chassis to improve the center of gravity. This battery provides an EPA-estimated all-electric range of approximately 61 km (38 miles), allowing most daily commuters to drive without using a single drop of gasoline. It supports DC Fast Charging (CHAdeMO), which can replenish the battery to 80% in about 38 minutes.
