The 2025/2026 Proton X50 facelift introduces a significant mechanical shift, replacing the previous 3-cylinder unit with a new 1.5L 4-cylinder Turbocharged I-GT engine. This change specifically addresses user feedback regarding engine vibration and refinement. The 4-cylinder configuration provides a smoother power delivery and improved thermal management, ensuring more consistent performance in high-altitude regions like Nepal.

With the new engine tuning, the Flagship variant now produces a peak power of 181 PS. This allows the B-segment SUV to maintain its "pocket rocket" reputation, providing class-leading power-to-weight ratios that outperform many naturally aspirated engines in the 2.0L category.

Torque has been increased to a substantial 290 Nm, providing effortless low-end pull. This makes the X50 exceptionally agile in city traffic and reduces the "turbo lag" feel often associated with smaller displacement engines. The torque curve is optimized for quick bursts of acceleration between gears.

Thanks to the improved engine refinement and a faster-reacting transmission, the 2025 X50 Flagship can hit 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds. This remains one of the fastest acceleration times for a non-luxury compact SUV in its price bracket.

The X50 utilizes a 7-speed Wet Dual-Clutch Transmission. Unlike dry DCTs, this system uses oil to cool the clutch plates, making it far more durable for the mountainous terrains of Nepal and the hot, congested traffic of Southeast Asia. It features three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.
