The GT features the M840TE engine, a 4.0-litre Twin-Turbo V8 tailored for usability. Unlike the high-strung 720S, this engine uses smaller turbochargers to provide better low-end torque and responsiveness, making it easier to drive in congested Indian city traffic or on winding hill roads.

Producing 620 PS, the GT can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. While it is more "relaxed" by McLaren standards, it still reaches a top speed of 326 km/h. It utilizes a lightweight carbon fibre "MonoCell II-T" chassis to maintain a superior power-to-weight ratio.
