As a pure Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the Leaf utilizes a high-efficiency single-speed reduction gear transmission. The drivetrain remains Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), optimized for urban efficiency. A core feature is the enhanced "e-Pedal Step," which allows for one-pedal driving by providing significant regenerative braking when the accelerator is lifted. The system also includes "Regenerative Braking Paddles" on higher trims, allowing the driver to manually adjust the level of energy recuperation on the fly.
