Gearbox Type: Single-Speed Fixed Gear
Like all Tesla vehicles, the Model Y uses a single-speed direct-drive transmission. This setup provides a smooth, linear power band and eliminates the maintenance and weight associated with traditional multi-speed gearboxes. The reduction ratio is optimized for a balance between low-end torque and highway efficiency.
Drive Type: RWD / Dual Motor AWD
The Model Y is available in Rear-Wheel Drive (single motor) or All-Wheel Drive (dual motor). In the AWD setup, the car digitally controls torque to the front and rear wheels independently, reacting to changing road conditions in as little as 10 milliseconds to maximize traction.
