Gearbox Type: Single-Speed Fixed Gear
The Model X uses a single-speed fixed-ratio gearbox (approx. 9:1 ratio). This direct-drive system ensures there are no shifts or power interruptions, providing the smooth, linear experience expected of a luxury EV. The Plaid uses high-strength components to handle the massive 1,000+ hp output.
Drive Type: All-Wheel Drive (Dual/Tri-Motor)
All current Model X variants are All-Wheel Drive. The standard model uses one motor per axle, while the Plaid uses one in the front and two in the rear. This "Digital AWD" system can adjust torque to each wheel every 10 milliseconds to prevent slip before it even occurs.
