Gearbox Type: 10-Speed AMT (SelectShift Automatic)
The Raptor features a 10-speed automatic transmission with magnesium paddle shifters. This wide range of gear ratios allows for an ultra-low first gear for crawling and a high overdrive gear for efficient highway travel. The transmission is programmed with "Live in Drive" capability, allowing the driver to override the automatic shifts at any time using the paddles.
Drive Type: 4WD (Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive)
Unlike standard part-time 4WD systems, the Raptor uses an advanced electronically controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case. This allows for a "4A" (4-Automatic) mode that can be used on dry pavement, as well as locked 4H and 4L modes. It also includes front and rear locking differentials for maximum traction in technical rock crawling situations.
Clutch Type: Multi-Plate Wet Clutch (Torque Converter)
The 10R80 transmission utilizes a high-capacity torque converter with an integrated multi-plate lock-up clutch. This design provides the smoothness required for daily driving while ensuring that power delivery is direct and heat-efficient during high-load off-roading. The clutch material is enhanced to withstand the high thermal loads generated in Baja mode.
