Gearbox Type: Electronically Controlled CVT (eCVT)
The Camry utilizes an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT), which is not a belt-and-pulley system but rather a sophisticated planetary gear set that manages power between the engine and the electric motors. The drivetrain options include a standard Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and an advanced Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system. Unlike mechanical AWD systems, the Camry’s AWD uses an independent electric motor on the rear axle to provide traction instantly when needed. The clutch system is integrated within the hybrid transaxle as a power-split device, eliminating the need for a traditional friction clutch.
