Performance and Engine of Mercedes benz Maybach S Class in India

Engine Displacement: 3,982 cc (V8) / 5,980 cc (V12)

The Maybach S-Class offers two monumental powerplants. The S 580 features a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, producing 496 bhp and 700 Nm. The flagship S 680 houses a handcrafted 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine—the last of its kind—delivering a staggering 603 bhp / 612 PS and 900 Nm of torque. Both units are engineered for "effortless" power delivery, prioritized over raw aggression.

Configuration: V8 & V12 / Twin-Turbocharged

The S 580 utilizes an 8-cylinder V-shape configuration, while the S 680 utilizes a 12-cylinder V-shape. Both engines feature a Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) design with 4 valves per cylinder. They employ twin-turbochargers and high-precision direct injection to ensure maximum torque is available from as low as 2,000 rpm, allowing the heavy limousine to glide with minimal engine noise.

Acceleration and Speed: 0-100 km/h in 4.5 - 4.8 seconds

Despite weighing over 2.3 tons, the Maybach S-Class exhibits sports-car-level acceleration. The V12 S 680 hits 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the V8 S 580 follows closely at 4.8 seconds. The top speed for both variants is electronically limited to 250 km/h to maintain tire integrity and passenger comfort.
