The flagship AMG G 63 features a handcrafted 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine now augmented with a 48V mild-hybrid integrated starter-generator (ISG). This powerhouse produces 577 bhp / 585 PS and a massive 850 Nm of torque. The G 450d (replacing the G 400d) uses a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine producing 362 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, also featuring mild-hybrid assistance for better low-end response.

The G 63 utilizes an 8-cylinder "Hot Inside V" turbocharger configuration with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI). The valve train is a Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) system with 4 valves per cylinder.
